The best way to show off a powerful new technology is to demonstrate real-world results with it, and that's exactly what Adobe and O'Reilly have done with Flex 3.
Through it's Flex Cookbook website, Adobe invited users of the Flex 3 beta to post their own solutions for working with this technology, using O'Reilly's popular problem-solution-discussion format. Website monitors (and authors) Joshua Noble and Todd Anderson chose the most useful solutions for Flex 3 Cookbook.
This highly practical book contains more than 200 proven recipes for developing interactive Rich Internet Applications and Web 2.0 sites, including several contributed by Noble, Anderson, and other Flex experts. You'll find everything from Flex basics and working with menus and controls, to methods for compiling, deploying, and configuring Flex applications.
Each recipe features a discussion of how and why it works, and many of them offer sample code that you can put to use immediately. Topics include:
Whether you're a committed Flex developer, or still evaluating the technology, you'll discover how to get quick results with Flex 3 using these these recipes. Now that Flex is an open source framework, the user community will continue to supply solutions to extend and improve the technology. This Cookbook offers you the cream of the crop.

Computing with C# demystifies the art of programming with C# through clear explanations and intuitive examples. Both novice and experienced programmers will find that this text serves as an accessible and thorough guide to object-oriented and event-driven programming concepts. Readers develop a mastery of objects through the author’s spiral teaching approach: first straightforward examples are presented, then simple class design, and finally the more difficult aspects of inheritance and polymorphism. The author applies his spiral teaching approach throughout the text, and readers acquire a meaningful understanding of programming concepts and techniques. This text sets the standard for today’s C# programming books; readers of all levels will benefit from the rich learning experience that this text provides.
This book teaches C# from the beginning, but includes enough material for a two-term course covering more advanced topics. It teaches the concepts of computing necessary for a CS-1 course, but allows those with prior experience programming in another language to proceed quickly over the earlier chapters to learn the exciting C# language and .NET Framework in depth.
I believe one learns best from example, and, therefore, each chapter has many complete programs. As programmers we learn to add comments to our code, but for pedagogical purposes where comments would be so detailed as to clutter the code, I prefer to use notes. Each note contains a longer explanation of a key line of code, and appears just after the code, allowing easier reading of the code itself. By using notes in this way, I also avoid cluttering the text with detailed code explanations and can focus on explaining concepts.

The Marino Mission: One Girl, One Mission, One Thousand Words; 1,000 Need-to-Know *SAT Vocabulary Words 1,000 SAT I vocabulary words in a teen-friendly page-turner
Say adios to the mind-numbing word lists found in most SAT prep guides: teens will lose themselves in the fast-paced drama of The Marino Mission and emerge with a superior vocabulary.
Each year, more than 2 million students take the SAT I. Now, instead of poring over word lists, they’ll encounter vocabulary in the context of a memorable novel–a recipe for much better word retention on test day. One thousand of the most commonly tested vocabulary words are sprinkled through this action-packed story, which features an exotic Latin American locale, a teenage girl and boy, a tale of intrigue surrounding a missing baby dolphin–and a brief definition of each vocabulary word, easily accessible at the bottom of the page on which each word appears. As an added test-prep bonus, the book includes vocabulary exercises at the back to help students master the words presented in the text.
Dr. Karen B. Chapman (Southborough, MA) received her PhD in molecular biology and genetics from Johns Hopkins University. She is also a writer, with a film treatment that was optioned by Paramount Studios.
