Software Security Engineering May 2008 eBook-BBL

Software Security Engineering May 2008 eBook-BBL
“This book’s broad overview can help an organization choose a set of processes, policies, and techniques that are appropriate for its security maturity, risk tolerance, and development style. This book will help you understand how to incorporate practical security techniques into all phases of the development lifecycle.”

–Steve Riley, senior security strategist, Microsoft Corporation

“There are books written on some of the topics addressed in this book, and there are other books on secure systems engineering. Few address the entire life cycle with a comprehensive overview and discussion of emerging trends and topics as well as this one.”

–Ronda Henning, senior scientist-software/security queen, Harris Corporation

Software that is developed from the beginning with security in mind will resist, tolerate, and recover from attacks more effectively than would otherwise be possible. While there may be no silver bullet for security, there are practices that project managers will find beneficial. With this management guide, you can select from a number of sound practices likely to increase the security and dependability of your software, both during its development and subsequently in its operation.

Software Security Engineering draws extensively on the systematic approach developed for the Build Security In (BSI) Web site. Sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security Software Assurance Program, the BSI site offers a host of tools, guidelines, rules, principles, and other resources to help project managers address security issues in every phase of the software development life cycle (SDLC). The book’s expert authors, themselves frequent contributors to the BSI site, represent two well-known resources in the security world: the CERT Program at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and Cigital, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in software security.

This book will help you understand why

Software security is about more than just eliminating vulnerabilities and conducting penetration tests
Network security mechanisms and IT infrastructure security services do not sufficiently protect application software from security risks
Software security initiatives should follow a risk-management approach to identify priorities and to define what is “good enough”–understanding that software security risks will change throughout the SDLC
Project managers and software engineers need to learn to think like an attacker in order to address the range of functions that software should not do, and how software can better resist, tolerate, and recover when under attack

SAS.Certification Prep Guide Advanced Programming for SAS 9 Nov 2007 eBook-BBL
The service-oriented approach has become more and more popular, now
allowing highly integrated and yet heterogeneous applications. Web
services are the natural evolution of conventional middleware
technologies to support Web-based and enterprise-level integration. The
highly dynamic characteristics of service-oriented applications means
their validation is a continuous process that often runs in parallel
with execution. It is not possible to clearly distinguish between the
predeployment validation of a system and its use, nor is it possible to
guarantee that the checks passed at a certain time will be passed at a
later time and in the actual execution environment as well. Baresi and
Di Nitto have put together the first reference on all aspects of testing
and validating service-oriented architectures, taking into account these
inherent intricacies. The contributions by leading academic and
industrial research groups are structured into four parts on: static
analysis to acquire insight into how the system is supposed to work;
testing techniques to sample its actual behavior; monitoring to probe
its operational performance; and nonfunctional requirements like
reliability and trust. This monograph is an initial source of knowledge
for researchers in both academia and industry in the field of
service-oriented architecture validation and verification approaches.
They will find a comprehensive survey of state-of-the-art approaches as

Springer | 1985 | ISBN: 0387908196 | 480 pages | Djvu | 8,4 Mb

From the reviews: "This book is concerned with the application of methods from dynamical systems and bifurcation theories to the study of nonlinear oscillations. Chapter 1 provides a review of basic results in the theory of dynamical systems, covering both ordinary differential equations and discrete mappings. Chapter 2 presents 4 examples from nonlinear oscillations. Chapter 3 contains a discussion of the methods of local bifurcation theory for flows and maps, including center manifolds and normal forms. Chapter 4 develops analytical methods of averaging and perturbation theory. Close analysis of geometrically defined two-dimensional maps with complicated invariant sets is discussed in chapter 5. Chapter 6 covers global homoclinic and heteroclinic bifurcations. The final chapter shows how the global bifurcations reappear in degenerate local bifurcations and ends with several more models of physical problems which display these behaviors." #Book Review - Engineering Societies Library, New York#1 "An attempt to make research tools concerning `strange attractors' developed in the last 20 years available to applied scientists and to make clear to research mathematicians the needs in applied works. Emphasis on geometric and topological solutions of differential equations. Applications mainly drawn from nonlinear oscillations." #American Mathematical Monthly#2

Building PDA Databases For Wireless And Mobile Development (with code)

cover

Portable wireless mobile computing is the ability to retrieve information from the main computer system and/or repository of information on a wireless device at anytime and anywhere. An obvious plus here is the ability to also enter or update information on those main computer systems remotely via our wireless device. This gives us all the freedom to theoretically manipulate all information from afar.

The specific type of wireless devices used in our portable wireless mobile architecture is the Personal Digital Assistant, better known as the PDA. The usage of these types of devices is growing at an alarming rate. In the next five years, most cellular telephones will have Internet capabilities, and a large number of individuals will be porting a PDA of some sort.

The goal of this book is to introduce to you, the reader, how to build databases on personal digital devices to be used with PDA applications. Of course, we also try to show how to build PDA applications to use the data within the database.

This book was written for programmers, technical managers, technical architects, and anyone wanting to learn about PDA database applications. If you want to learn the basics, this book will certainly give you that. If you require a reference or a "how to" manual, again we hope this helps.

Essential Linux Device Drivers

The Most Practical Guide to Writing Linux Device Drivers

Linux now offers an exceptionally robust environment for driver development: with today’s kernels, what once required years of development time can be accomplished in days. In this practical, example-driven book, one of the world’s most experienced Linux driver developers systematically demonstrates how to develop reliable Linux drivers for virtually any device. Essential Linux Device Drivers is for any programmer with a working knowledge of operating systems and C, including programmers who have never written drivers before. Sreekrishnan Venkateswaran focuses on the essentials, bringing together all the concepts and techniques you need, while avoiding topics that only matter in highly specialized situations. Venkateswaran begins by reviewing the Linux 2.6 kernel capabilities that are most relevant to driver developers. He introduces simple device classes; then turns to serial buses such as I2C and SPI; external buses such as PCMCIA, PCI, and USB; video, audio, block, network, and wireless device drivers; user-space drivers; and drivers for embedded Linux–one of today’s fastest growing areas of Linux development. For each, Venkateswaran explains the technology, inspects relevant kernel source files, and walks through developing a complete example.

• Addresses drivers discussed in no other book, including drivers for I2C, video, sound, PCMCIA, and different types of flash memory

• Demystifies essential kernel services and facilities, including kernel threads and helper interfaces

• Teaches polling, asynchronous notification, and I/O control

• Introduces the Inter-Integrated Circuit Protocol for embedded Linux drivers

• Covers multimedia device drivers using the Linux-Video subsystem and Linux-Audio framework

• Shows how Linux implements support for wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, Infrared, WiFi, and cellular networking

• Describes the entire driver development lifecycle, through debugging and maintenance

• Includes reference appendixes covering Linux assembly, BIOS calls, and Seq files

Mathematical analysis is applied to evaluate the trading methodologies practiced by traders to execute a trade transaction. In addition, probability theory is employed to appraise the utility of money management techniques. The book: identifies the faultiness of some of the indicators used by traders and accentuates the potential of wavelets as a trading tool; describes the scientific evidences that the market is non-random, and that the non-randomness can vary with respect to time; demonstrates the validity of the claim by some traders that, with good money management techniques, the market is still profitable even if it were random; and analyzes why a popular trading tactic has a good probability of success and how it can be improved.

The Quantum Classical Theory

by Gert D. Billing "The Quantum Classical Theory"
Oxford University Press, USA | Pages: 256 | 2003-01-23 | ISBN: 0195146190 | PDF | 1 Mb

Product Description:

Over a period of fifty years, the quantum-classical or semi-classical theories have been among the most popular for calculations of rates and cross sections for many dynamical processes: energy transfer, chemical reactions, photodissociation, surface dynamics, reactions in clusters and
solutions, etc. These processes are important in the simulation of kinetics of processes in plasma chemistry, chemical reactors, chemical or gas lasers, atmospheric and interstellar chemistry, as well as various industrial processes. This book gives an overview of quantum-classical methods that are
currently used for a theoretical description of these molecular processes. It gives the theoretical background for the derivation of the theories from first principles. Enough details are provided to allow numerical implementation of the methods. The book gives the necessary background for
understanding the approximations behind the methods and the working schemes for treating energy transfer processes from diatomic to polyatomic molecules, reactions at surfaces, non-adiabatic processes, and chemical reactions.
